As protective glass, it helps reduce the risk of scratches during everyday use. The protective glass consists of optical glass that is chemically hardened, with a reinforcing PET film on the inside.
The surface is treated to resist fingerprints. If the glass were to crack, the PET layer holds the pieces together, which reduces the risk of sharp shards.
